Meet AB Guatemala Peace's Site Leaders & Participants!
Site Leader: Chris Villaresan
Year: Senior
Major: Economics
About: I’m a 21-year old wandering soul who likes to think he has it all together but sometimes doesn’t. However, as Mahatma Gandhi best said it, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” With that being said, I am ecstatic to continue my journey toward Active Citizenship with this upcoming trip to Guatemala and excited to help my AB family along the way.

Major: Structural Engineering
About: Hello my name is Javier Buenrostro. I am a second year Revelle student majoring in Structural Engineering at UCSD. My hometown is a small Danish town Solvang, California. Growing up in such a tight knit community has always made me involved in the community, and with Alternative Breaks offers amazing opportunities to do service in the local San Diego community as well as internationally. During my free time I enjoy playing soccer, going to the gym and going on hikes. I cannot wait to go to Guatemala to help the local community and build connections with the locals.

About: One of my favorite influential thought leaders, Neil deGrasse Tyson, says he is driven by two main philosophies, “Know more today about the world than I knew yesterday. And lessen the suffering of others.” I cannot agree more. My passion for learning and helping others has led me to start this journey of service, and I am hopeful for the positive impact this trip will have on everyone.

About: I grew up in Los Angeles, where I was blessed to have grown up with so much diversity. As I grew older, I began to spend time with various organizations and realized the importance of helping others. About: Growing up in a community with many privileges, I realized the importance of helping others at a very young age. I began by helping my community as much as I could through Girl Scouts as a young girl and volunteering through various clubs at school. Giving back has been the most rewarding feeling and has made a great impact on my life. Now, I am so excited to have the opportunity to grow beyond my inner community and help out others that are not as privileged in other countries where I can continue my services.

About: To be honest, I don't have the perfect life plan mapped out for myself. But I have always been passionate about helping others to my fullest capability. I am so thankful for this opportunity to not only benefit and grow as a person, but also help out those who are in need. A quote I have always liked to live by is, "Be the change you wish to see in the world," as Mahatma Ghandi once said. At the end of the day, the most rewarding feeling is walking away knowing you impacted someone's life in the smallest way possible.
